What are soft unhardened carbon steel balls?

Soft unhardened carbon steel balls are AISI 1010/1015 low-carbon spheres supplied without carburizing or through hardening.

Their value is weldability, machinability and formability—not high wear resistance, corrosion resistance or bearing fatigue performance. They are appropriate for fabrication and low-stress mechanical functions.

They are not corrosion resistant. Specify oil, plating, barrier packaging or an alternate material for humid or wet service.
