BEARING CAGES / ROLLING-ELEMENT SEPARATION

Ball Retainers & Separators

Custom ball and roller retainers that position, separate and guide rolling elements in bearings, slides, linear motion and compact mechanical assemblies.

Ball Retainers & Separators supplied by SDBALLS
PRODUCT REFERENCE / FINAL SPECIFICATION BY QUOTATION

PRODUCT OVERVIEW

What are ball retainers & separators?

Ball retainers and separators are cage components that maintain rolling-element spacing, reduce ball-to-ball contact and guide balls or rollers through an assembly. They may be stamped, machined, molded or assembled.

Pocket geometry, retention force, free movement, material, lubrication, speed and operating temperature must be balanced. A cage is designed with the rolling element and raceway, not selected as an isolated generic part.

PRODUCT SELECTION GUIDANCE

Compare materials before substituting.

Material selection affects load, wear, corrosion, temperature, precision, service life and total program cost.

Material optionPrimary advantageLimitationBest fit
Molded nylon / PALight, low friction and design flexibilityMoisture and temperature influence dimensionsGeneral bearings and light motion
POM / engineering polymerGood dimensional stability and low frictionTemperature and chemistry limitsSlides and precision mechanisms

KEY PERFORMANCE FEATURES

Performance that purchasing teams can verify.

01

Controlled element spacing

Pocket pitch prevents rolling elements from contacting and bunching.

02

Low-drag guidance

Pocket clearance and surface support free motion without losing retention.

03

Material-specific performance

Metal and polymer choices respond to speed, heat, lubricant and chemical exposure.

04

Assembly integration

Ring, strip and segmented forms can be designed around installation sequence.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS

Specify the work the ball must perform.

Application names are starting points—not approval of universal suitability. Share the real medium, load, speed, pressure, temperature, life target and compliance needs.

Ball & roller bearings

Cages for radial, thrust and special bearing configurations.

Linear slides & guides

Ball strips and retainers for compact recirculating or limited-travel motion.

Automotive mechanisms

Seats, steering, transmissions and controlled-motion assemblies.

Custom instruments

Small mechanisms, turntables, supports and specialized separators.

QUALITY & DOCUMENTATION

Build the evidence into the purchase order.

Document requirements should be defined before quotation so the inspection method, sampling level, traceability and external testing can be planned correctly.

  • Material identity or alloy / ceramic grade verified against the agreed purchase specification
  • Diameter, tolerance and geometry inspected using the method appropriate to the ordered precision level
  • Hardness, density, wall thickness or coating hardness tested when applicable to the product
  • Surface condition, finish and visual limits checked against approved samples or drawings
  • Roundness / sphericity or roller geometry inspected when specified
  • Lot identification and batch traceability maintained through controlled records
  • Material certificates and inspection reports available when agreed before quotation
  • Third-party testing, compliance documents and customer inspection plans supported by agreement

PACKAGING OPTIONS

Protect precision through delivery.

Final packing depends on material, diameter, surface sensitivity, order weight, storage time and destination.

01

Clean, rust-protected packing

Dry or lightly protected packing selected around material and storage conditions.

02

Counted trays & tubes

Separated or counted packing for precision rollers and assembly-line presentation.

03

Bulk industrial containers

Bags, cartons, pails or drums sized to prevent damaging movement and overload.

04

OEM line-side packing

Part-number labels, batch identification, returnable concepts and pallet plans by agreement.

Supported formats: bulk packaging · small-quantity packaging · plastic containers · bags · cartons · export pallets · customized packaging.

SMALL QUANTITY & SAMPLE ORDERS

Validate before you scale.

SDBALLS Industry Corp. supports North American customers with sample quantities, prototype requirements, testing programs and specialty ball inquiries.

Provide cage and assembly drawings, rolling-element data, speed, load, lubricant, temperature, retention method and annual quantity. Functional prototypes should be tested in the complete mechanism.

PRODUCT FAQ

Answers for engineering and purchasing teams.

What does a ball retainer do?

It spaces, separates and guides rolling elements, reducing ball-to-ball contact and supporting controlled movement.

Which cage material should I choose?

Material depends on speed, load, temperature, lubricant, chemistry, moisture, noise and production volume.

Can SDBALLS supply the cage with balls installed?

Yes. Retainer assemblies with selected balls or rollers can be reviewed with retention, cleanliness and functional-test requirements.

How is pocket clearance specified?

Pocket size must balance free movement, lubrication, thermal expansion and retention. It should be validated in the complete raceway assembly.

Can you provide material certificates and inspection reports?

Yes. State the required certificate, inspection method, sampling plan and report format before quotation so documentation can be included in the supply plan.

Do you support samples and small-quantity orders?

Yes. SDBALLS Industry Corp. supports North American prototype, qualification, repair, R&D and small-batch requirements, subject to material, size and production availability.
